Bright clothes were worn by pupils and teachers in Lancing on Thursday to raise awareness of the urgent need for a pedestrian crossing near their school.

A group from the Globe Academy in Irene Avenue were joined by councillors for a visit to the proposed site of the crossing in Crabtree Lane.

The idea to wear bright coloured clothes was suggested by councillor George Barton.

Ricky Leigh, headteacher, said: “This is a great opportunity for the school to engage with the community as the crossing would bring a much needed and safe crossing point for our pupils as well as for others who attend local nurseries and secondary schools or just need to cross the road safely.”

Councillor Carol Albury said: “Councillor Barton and I agree with the school that there is a great need for the crossing and are working very hard with West Sussex County Council to make sure this project is given the importance it deserves.

“It was great to be able to join the school’s very own councillors and accompany them in a walk to the proposed site.”
