St Marks was rated as ‘requires improvement’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) after an inspection on March 1. The home, which provides accommodation and care for seven adults on the autism spectrum, was given the same rating in two out of five areas and as ‘good’ in the other three. The inspector criticised the Collier Road home for not being consistently effective or well-led as the training and audit systems were not robust enough. However St Marks was praised for in the caring, responsive and safe areas with many positives included in the report’s summary. “Staff communicated effectively with people, responded to their needs promptly, and treated people with kindness and respect,” the report summary said. “People’s privacy was respected and people were assisted in a way that respected their dignity. “The registered manager demonstrated a high level of knowledge about people and their individual autism needs. “They supported people with kindness and compassion.” The CQC deemed St Marks was not ‘consistently effective’ as some new staff had not yet attended relevant training and other staff required refresher training in some areas.
