Bersted Parish Council has joined residents in objecting to plans for a new vehicular access at Bedford Avenue.

A planning application has been submitted to Arun District Council for the replacement of a blockwork boundary wall with a fence and new access at 339 Chichester Road.

The plan relates to the back of the property which is on Bedford Avenue.

West Sussex County Council carried out a desktop study which said the visibility splay was the required 43m and concluded it had no highway safety concerns.

After a meeting on Tuesday, the parish council submitted its comments to the district council.

“The proposed new vehicular access is on a bend and the plan showing the visibility splay does not take into account that residents’ cars are parked nearing the bend which makes it impossible for the visibility splay of 43m to be achieved,” it said.

“It is a safety issue for pedestrians, children and cars if this access is allowed.
